Victoria, known as Tori or Suds to those close to her, is a poet at heart, a believer in change, and advocacy for marginalized communities. She enjoys expressing herself through her clothing and believes the Black community deserves an outlet for positive expression.
Her poetry has been published in magazines and she is now focusing her energy towards publishing a book in the near future. Working for The Defender since her Senior year of high school, she focuses on cultural aspects of the community and how they interact with society. She’s in college at the Harris-Stowe State University, majoring in Communications. She will one day own a publishing company focused on helping Black young adults and teens publish their works. In the mean time, she is an active poet, artist and mentor to those around her.
In her spare time she enjoys hanging out with friends, working on paintings or poetic projects, and watching docu-series. She quoted Nina Simone in her senior quote, saying: “To be young, gifted, and black.”
