Our communities have been the frontline battlegrounds in a war waged by corporations and governments.

For decades, the land we call home has been turned into toxic dumping grounds, and the air we breathe has been poisoned, all in the name of maximizing profit for greedy corporations. Rather than an act of negligence—it has been an intentional act of violence against Black communities.

This Monday, the KC Reparations Coalition is calling on Black folks from across the city to join a crucial discussion on environmental/climate justice. Led by special guest, Dr. Stephen Pinkney, the discussion will cover how Black communities have been strategically targeted for toxic waste dumps, incinerators, and landfills, leading to an epidemic of health crises among our people.

Cancer. Respiratory disease. Lead poisoning, are just a few of the tragic results of decades of these violent practices.

Dr. Pinkney, a renown scholar and postdoctoral researcher at the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice, will expose how this environmental warfare has decimated our communities — and powerful strategies to fight back.

His work reveals the connection between the corporate machine, government policy, and environmental racism, focusing on the devastation in cities like Houston, his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, and how such policies impact our communities right here in Kansas City.

He will not only speak on the harm but also on the radical need for reparations—because this environmental destruction was no accident, and we must demand full compensation for the lives and futures stolen from us.
