Following Minnesota’s massively successful general strike on January 23rd, unions across the nation are calling for a nationwide general strike this Friday, January 30th.
As ICE continues to terrorize, invade, murder, kidnap, and rape us, politicians have given up on us. Democrats, with the exception of Ilhan Omar, are publicly still supporting ICE, despite their murders of Keith Porter Jr., Renee Good, Alex Piretti, and nearly 40 individuals murdered in ICE captivity since 2025. Republicans continue to demand blind faith and support of ICE, while lying and calling the innocent victims of the new age nazis “terrorists.”
ICE has graduated beyond merely being the “gestapo” for the Trump Administration. Unlike ICE, the gestapo were meant to be a “secret police.” Currently, ICE acts as the modern day nazi stormtroopers by openly terrorizing our communities.
Despite claims from ICE officials (who are already notorious for lying) stating they aren’t planning an invasion of Kansas City, Kansas City Discover has documented 70+ ICE vehicles previously being stored near Worlds of Fun, ICE driving in new vehicles in Belton, and ICE going around neighborhoods in Lees Summit. They’re coming for us. We need to protect our communities.
Major organizations such as General Strike US and National Shutdown are demanding a stand against the tyranny we face. Endorsers already include the likes of Palestinian Youth Movement, Free Palestine- Kansas City, Community Movement Builders, The 50501 Movement (which aided in the No Kings protests), Black Lives Matter organizations, The Party for Socialism and Liberation, tenants unions, and hundreds more organizations.
Not only are grassroots organizations, unions, and other entities in support of the strike, but actors such as Pedro Pascal, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edward Norton, and more are advocating for the January 30th general strike.
Alongside the January 30th strike, mass protests are planned around the Kansas City Metro this weekend. Boots on the Ground Midwest is protesting at 75th & Metcalf in Overland Park at 9:30 on Saturday. Four Corners is protesting in Lenexa at Maurer Rd. & 87th St Parkway. Indivisible Kansas City is protesting in Leawood on 203rd & State Line at 12 PM. Rescue Democracy is protesting in the Plaza at 12 PM.
The time to stand up and fight back is here, and it begins with us. No politician is going to save us. Only we can save us. The resistance begins with a general strike, and doesn’t end until all of us are liberated.
From the streets to ICE’s concentration camps, none of us are free until all of us are.
On January 30th, do not go to work. Do not go to school. Get out and stand against tyranny. Begin a weekend of resistance by joining the Nationwide General Strike, and continuing into mass planned protests around the KC Metro.
