State Auditor: The Office That Counts the Money

One statewide office is on Missouri’s 2026 ballot, and it is the scorekeeper of everything else.

On candidates we publish records, votes, donors, dollars, and dates, and nothing else. No endorsements, no scores, no adjectives. The judgment is yours.

📌 The Stakes Are High

Republican incumbent Scott Fitzpatrick faces Jerry Wistrand Jr. in the August 4 primary. Democrats choose between Quentin Wilson of St. Louis and Gregory Upchurch of St. Charles. The winner audits every public dollar in the state for four years, including whatever becomes of the budget if Amendment 5 passes.

🎯 Why It Matters

The auditor’s office has reported the state drawing down its general revenue fund by roughly $1.4 billion across two fiscal years. If Amendment 5 passes, this office becomes the referee of the largest fiscal experiment in state history, and it holds jurisdiction to examine local assessment operations like the one that upended Jackson County. Quiet office, loud consequences.
